Battery Associates (B.A) was founded in October 2020 out of a shared passion to drive innovative projects in the battery sector. 

As both a battery researcher and an entrepreneur, Dr. Simon Engelke was determined to help expand and diversify a field known for its transformative effect on society. While completing his PhD at the University of Cambridge, Simon tackled the material challenges of battery innovation and decided to call on the collective strengths of his network to drive the energy transition forward. With the vision to accelerate battery development through a multipurpose platform, he leveraged the power of the energy community to out the battery innovation at the service of social impact. 

In its first month of operation, Battery Associates expanded into a network of over 50 volunteers including 17 Ambassadors from 10 different countries. Battery Associates responds to needs that remained unmet within the energy sphere, and B.A now operates as the first battery-focused company encompassing a network, a consultancy, and a recruitment platform. 

Dr. Simon Engelke, Founder & Chair, previously served on the World Economic Forum’s Council on Energy Technologies and in 2019 was selected to be a U.K delegate on the EV and Vehicle to Grid (V2G) SF British delegation. In 2018 he received the Trinity Bradfield Prize at the hands of Chemistry Nobel Prize winner G. Winter for his innovative battery electrode structuring technology. In 2015 he was awarded a Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award by Cambridge University Entrepreneurs. 

He has been a part of the Global Shapers community since 2017, fostering collaboration and launching several projects including Random Shaper, a successful community-building tool that has been used in more than 200 cities in 100 countries.
